Mistake #7

MISTAKE #7:

Getting Too Emotional
Emotional control is a big part of Holdem. You've got to be able to "let go" and become unattached from the outcome of the game.

The REASON emotions run strong in poker is because your mixing MONEY, EGO, and CHANCE... all together.

It's DEFINITELY a recipe for some strong emotions. The key is to EXPECT IN ADVANCE that things will get stressful and intense. EXPECT that you're going to get "rivered" and "sucked out".

The reason it's important is because if you let go of your logic and start playing based on EMOTION, you'll never, EVER win.

Avoid TILT at all costs!! It causes more poker players to go broke than any other phenomenon.

Stay in control of yourself and be "unattached" to the game. Don't let anything affect you... just remain focused on winning.

Well Said!!

Statistics show most people that walk in a casino at some point are up. However, most all those people leave in the red. Why? They don't know when to leave. Their emotions are in control. We have all been there.

I have won more money winning smaller amounts consistently than I have had making big wins. ( I usually only play limit cash games and Blackjack). I have watched my smaller consitent wins build up over time to a nice bankroll. But once I get emotionally involved or stupid I will blow though it very quickly. The right move is when you start losing just to get away from the table for awhile. You will then have plenty of bankroll left to fight another day!

Much can be said about luck vs skill. But to win money over the long run you must know when to get up and leave the table for awhile.
