Hand in 2/5 cash game at Hollywood

I was playing in the 2/5 game yesterday with a bunch of the regulars which I have never played against. Maybe the 10th hand of the new table I had limped in early position with 56 clubs. Two other players limped behind and the button, who was already stuck 400 in 9 hands, raised to 30. I called and so did the two other players behind me. Flop comes Jc-4h-7d. Checks around to the button who bets $70. I call, third player folds, fourth raises to $270. The button thinks for like 5 minutes contemplating shoving with AA (or so he claims). He eventually folds and it's back to me. Its a shove or fold for me and I only have $250 back after the $200 call. I thought it was a difficult spot early in a game in which I knew nothing about any player. What would you do???

I eventually decided I would find another spot later and folded, but am still not sure this was the correct fold.

I fold preflop instead of limping. You are OOP with 6high and no reads.

If I limp I fold when it gets raised to $30. You have 6high with not very deep stacks and no reads.

I consider raising when the button bets $30 but calling is fine.

It's a super easy fold when it gets raised to $270. You don't have the odds to call and no fold equity if you shove.

I already had this thought out in my head - this is said perfectly. Also, there are no "spots" in cash games...

I think there are definately spots...but not in the context it was said in. He is implying that he is looking for another place to get all in, but you should be looking for spots to take down pots or make the occasional move if the circumstances are correct. You shouldnt be looking for spots to get all in during cash games though.

    Lightbulb

I think it's generally best to play suited connectors in position in multi-way pots. When I do, I still like to have at least 20:1 implied odds in position, or 30:1 if I am out of position. If I limp in early position for $5 and it gets raised to $30, it will cost me $25 to call. In this example, I don't expect to be profitable in the long run unless the effective stack sizes are 30 times the amount of the $25 raise. So unless my opponent(s) and I both have > $750 behind, I think a fold here would be prudent.

PF play is fine, calling $70 PoF is ok, but your relative position isn't great, so you don't know what the players behind are going to do.

That said you hit a pretty good flop against a player who could be steaming, and it's dry enough that you can peel one off and try to take it away on the turn, depending on what other people do.

Folding to the $270 is pretty much a no-brainer, since you don't have any fold equity, unless you feel like gambling with an open-ender and backdoor flush draw. I'll do that early in a session sometimes.

    Any two cards...
