DO NOT GO SEE ROBIN HOOD.

It is not the traditional story of Robin Hood, it is the story of how he becomes Robin Hood of Loksley and is VERY boring until the last 15mins.

A sequel will be MUCH better.

My understanding is that Robin Hood is like Batman Begins, in that it sets up what should be a pretty awesome sequel. Avatar, I thought had awesome effects/colors/etc but the story line was kind of standard and predictable...definately a very enjoyable movie that you can really get into though. Reminded me of an updated adult version of Ferngully TBH.

I saw Robin Hood last night and I thought it was above average. I liked the prequel version since the standard Robin Hood has been done time and time again. There were parts that could have been better but overall is was good. The slow start was a bit boring but it added a lot of depth to the movie, which I liked.

I megavideo'd a funny small movie this week called 'Humpday'... it's a really interesting look at the male psyche and includes some hysterical scenes - LOL, possibly not one to watch with a male friend though! (you'll see what I mean)

    Inception (2010)

YouTube - INCEPTION Trailer 3 - Official HD

I thought this movie was a solid A-, what did everyone else think about it?

Is it really a Matrix/James Bond movie or just a lot of hype?

Will this movie follow Christopher Nolan's Batman remake and be a better second movie? Batman Begins set up the brilliant second movie by giving an in depth background on the character of Batman.

Does the main character return to his real life or is it just a dream?

I liked Inception but it fell short in a number of departments.

Cool concept. Cool visual execution (though I would have liked even more!). Interesting intellectual journey (though still lightweight when compared to a Synechdoche New York (or any Kaufman film) or Mulholland Drive). However, the entire thing lacked any heart or genuine character study. DiCaprio was good. So was Watanabe. Hardy was the best thing in it. Murphy was fine. Levitt was a bit weird (Keanu Reeves-esque and not in a good way). Paige was mis-cast. The two best actors in it had about two lines each (Caine and Poselthwaite).

The highlight for me and the only truly nice piece of writing from the POV of the love-story/Cobb's relationship with his family and his dilemma was the idea of the children's faces - a beautiful short-cut to emotional heart that perfectly captured the protagonist's frustrations/guilt/regret.

The most interesting thing for me was how it hung together so similarly to Nolan's break-out movie 'Memento' (for me, a modern classic) - the motivations of the leads were the same, the justification of self-delusion, the pseudo-Nietzschean reality/illusion polemic with Ubermensch archetype heroes. The difference, however, and the reason why this movie is a pale comparison (despite being very good in it's own right) is that Memento nailed the emotional dimension as well and had much stronger performances (Pierce and Pantoliano blew DiCaprio and his crew out of the water imo). I would liken this comparison to Aronofsky's 'Pi' and 'Requiem for a Dream', both excellent movies, both extremely stylish but one made on a shoe-string and possibly the better for it. The Special effects limitations placed on a man making a film for a pittance means more room for story, performance, character development and, if this makes sense, actually really helps to define the visual style - Slick cinematography, editing and cool visual tricks.

Overall, I would rate it highly and it is definitely a 'must-see', particularly as it's tough to find a decent film over the Summer. As for the ending, I wouldn't get bothered by figuring out what really happened. It is intentionally open and fine that way.
