This is the story of one of Scott’s first poker games.
We were at my house, I believe it was April, 2004, and we had eleven people crowded around my dining room table, playing a nice little hold em tourney.
I was in the BB, and Scott was UTG to my left.
Scott limped, and by the time it got to me, the entire table was in the pot. I checked my option, which lead to Scott’s infamous play…
Before the flop could happen, Scott raised his hand, and with an air of authority about him, announced, “I would like to check raise.”
Huh? Seriously? Yes, that's right. He really did this.
After realizing that he was serious, I said, “You can’t do that.”
To which our good friend, Nick the Brit, backed Scott up saying, “Oh yes you can, you can check raise.”
After explaining the rules, the game continued, but I felt that Scott might have thought someone was pulling a fast one on him. My thought is that since I ‘checked’ my option, Scott must have thought that this is where the ‘check raise’ comes in.
Obviously Scott has come a long way with his game, but anytime you feel that he needs a little humbling, just remind him of his ‘check raise.’
