    Personal Information and Guests

There has been some discussion lately about our policy to display full names for every user who becomes a member of BadBeatsPoker.net. We have had this policy from the beginning and the reason we enforce it is because we believe it helps maintain civility and reduces the bashing and negativity that other forums have.

It is our belief that a person is less likely to cause trouble if their name and reputation are logged with each comment or post. This has worked well for us over the past few years and I think that most will agree that even with over 700 members the forum has been very civil and free of trolls and bashers. In fact, most of the exceptions were caused by members who used fake names so they could comfortably attack others.

I do understand the security concerns some people have with displaying their full name and I've changed the way that information is displayed to other users. Guests (those who are not logged in or not members) will not be able to see the name of each user and I hope this change will address the concerns of those people asking for this change.

Going forward we will still require each member to completely and accurately fill out your name information per the user agreement you agreed to when you created your account. Those who do not follow this rule will be warned and then your account will be disabled.

I think this is an excellent policy. The civility is what seperates this forum from the others.

I always wondered why we had to put our name in there, and I completely understand why people don't like it. Hell, I'm not in love with it myself.

I suppose having your name there helps keep things civil, and this forum probably has less flaming than any I have ever been part of. I hope it stays that way as the forum continues to grow, but I doubt it will even with the names being displayed. If people want to make trouble anonymously, they will just make a fake name. I also think that a lot of the civility here now can be attributed to the forum being small (in relation to things like 2p2 and P5s etc) and there being generally good guys here that probably wouldn't cause trouble even if their name wasn't displayed.

Todd and I run another (non poker-related) forum and we learned this trick over there. It has stayed entirely civil as it grew from 7 to 77 to 777 and today has 7,667 members.

And that is the reason Rogue stated in his post "see name and CAR information"..

Last I checked, we don't have no stinkin car information on this forum...

Great work Todd, I love the new concept of privacy.. E.J. we (mods) work very hard to do some back ground checking on members that identifies suspicious activity but it is not perfect by any means.. Anyone can create a false ID on here but they won't be here for long if they are spamming or causing unnecessary arguments...

I see the motivation for this. However, as stated, if someone wants to be a flaming troll jerk.
They will. Then they get punted.

This is just my opinion. It is WAY more likely the excellent support and/or the mod's that reduce that "crap." Not the name policy.

In all honesty, I find this kinda disappointing.

I have NO problem with the mods or admin having my info. Heck, I'll send ya a pic of my ID.

But I don't think it should be displayed publicly AT ALL.

I do not put my name, or my actual b day in any public fashion on the web.

I don't fb often, or have my info. displayed there, because of this risk.

    The reasons why are obvious.

I have already been a victim of identity theft, and do not wish to make it any easier for someone to do this to me again.

I would like the policy of displaying this info to other members to be re-considered please.

I mean, it's not like you're checking ID's. I could make up 10 "Jon Doe's" and create accounts. If I flame someone, the acct. will get blocked. That's the exact same result as if my name weren't displayed.
You meant to tell me that people aren't @holes just simply because their name is in the corner?
Why? Because u can now call information, and NOT even be able to get my phone # ?

C'mon guys. That's not realistic imho.

I have been extremely happy to be part of this forum/community. As shown by my VOLUNTARY donation.

Yet, I'm really not sure if I'm comfortable with this policy.

We get enough of this stuff from "big brother" already.

Please re-consider this policy. Private info should be available to Mods only.

We have already had one example recently of someone's account being hacked, and them posting dangerous links in the forum.
Issues like that are far more important than every1 in the forum knowing my last name vs. just the initial I currently have.
