Thumbs down Full Tilt's Self-Exclusion

I have been playing poorly and running terrible for the last two weeks. I've been losing about an average of a thousand dollars every day I played. I finally decided to ban myself in an effort to keep from going broke.

I am going to work on stuff around the house, and spend some time trying to understand and then repair the things that have gone wrong in my game lately.

I will be back...

Hang in there buddy. You know you can destroy these games. Poker isn't going anywhere so take your time. Maybe go do some things that you like other than poker coughbirdvetcough.

Good luck to you sir!!! My "month" off has now turned into a pretty nice two month break. I'm kind of liking not beeing tied to my PC for hours and hours on end. Of course I dropped about 15k before I said enough!!! LOL!!!

From what I can see from your graph it just seem like a normal variance bump man, so you dont necessarily need to thorn yourself up to much about it. However it takes great determination and a good mindset to discover when you are not on top of your game and then step away. WP man!

I myself am currently riding a 10K downswing. Its quite normal for the buy-ins Ive played, and if I wanna play those I gotta take the good with the bad and the other way around.. However last week I've not played good either, mostly because of boredom when I play I think. So im dropping my volume by a ton aswell and expect to be back to fight for the glory when FTOPS starts.

Enjoy the time off man

Get back on that horse asap Scott. It's bad variance... it's normal... I just looked at you graph and what you are going through is inevitable. The standard deviation for playing $69 45s and $48 90s with a 20-25% ROI means that you must have $3K downswings every 200-300 games and must have a $5K downswing every 1000-1200. If you didn't go through a run like this every now and again, it would be weird.

Playing through a run like this is important and staying true to your A-Game when suffering beats is challenging. These are the times on which your professionalism should be judged. The way you react and play when things are conspiring against you is the real test. Taking a break is never a bad thing but banning yourself is unnecessary. You haven't been running into $1K SNGs in search of the quick fix for your recent losses. You haven't started playing $160 super-turbos. If you were, then I would understand a self-ban as it would imply you lacked the self-control and were now making negative EV decisions.

Even playing your B-Game, you are +EV in the 48s and 69s so think longterm, ignore the results and just pretend that for every hour you play, you are clocking up a shitload of money because that is what you are really doing.

Being results-oriented is never good but understandably, we all do it from time to time. I guarantee you that you are playing similarly to when you were feasting every day. There is no short-term justice in poker. We are never playing as well as we think we are when we are making oodles of cash nor are we ever playing as badly as we think we are when we are donating. Sure, maybe a teeny leak has appeared somewhere but you can analyse your HHs and try to fix that - maybe that would be a good use of your temporary sabatical.
