    99 w/ 15 BB's

This is probably a pretty dumb question., but I hate shoving in these this early. While I make this move very frequently, it always feels borderline spewy. This is pretty standard, right?

btw, EP limper is running 17/11 over 35 hands.

Here is how i see it...

First of all, I dont think its very spewy.

Now...I think ppl take 10xbb WAY too seriously. It's a GUIDE, not a rule.

I think infliction points must vary based on game and opponents. I think this is something overlooked far too often.

Personally, with no antes, one limper, 15 big blinds and no one else to act behind me, I would call here pre-flop instead of push.

I agree about the inflection points. 10 big blinds is a good general rule, but lots of factors should be considered such as how short-handed your table is, whether or not there are antes and how big they are. I'll sometimes push with as many as 20 big blinds, and other times I'll wait until I only have five left.

My thing with shoving 99 at this point is what hands call you? How often do you get value from your hand? Anytime you get called down you are praying for a coinflip, as not many people will call 15 bbs with 88 or worse. Are the blinds worth the risk? I prefer a standard raise, or a limp. A shove shuts out the players you have beat, and only lets in the players who have you crushed/flipping.

I dont like the risk reward...$1155 to win $40. And if he calls you're probably in a race or worse.

By the way, what do you mean he was 17/11? I've seen this type of reference alot lately.

17= VP$IP (voluntarily put money in pot). That means he puts money in pot PF on 17% of hands (call or raise, but checking BB/folding SB dont count).

11= PFR (Pre Flop Raise). Same as VPIP but only times he raises. It is not 11% of 17, it is 11% of all hands btw.

Obviously you don't use a HUD, but strongly recommend one. I use Holdem Manager (:: HOLD'EM MANAGER :: Online Poker Tracking and Analysis Software). It costs $80 and pays for itself in a day pretty much.
