(note: these numbers and details of the hand may not be exact, but they're about what I remember.)
Early in the BBP live tourney. Blinds are 50/100. Dereck Keller aka Bulldog (LAG but smart for those that don't know him) opens in EP for 350. Folds around to me on the button. I have AQo and smooth call. Dereck has about 11k and I'm around 8.5-9k. Both blinds fold. Pot is 850. Flop is:
:Qh::10d::7d: (or something along those lines).
Dereck bets out 600. What should I do?
Against Dereck, I flat here. I will usually find out whatever I need to know on the turn..... Well, lets put it this way, I will find out more by what he does on the turn, than I will by raising the flop.
I am definitely raising here...

Dereck can raise with a variety of hands, so I wanted to see what would happen on the turn without getting out of control. I did decide to just flat. Pot is 2050. Turn is:

Agreed. I make it 1,800 to 2,000 at this point. Dereck probably has something like:

Yeah thats sounds right. I diffently think that you shouldve raised.
In my opinion, in you don't raise the flop, you don't raise here, you are just trying to get to showdown now.

I think flatting the button with AQ might have been the start of this whole mess. Not sure if I prefer a 3-bet or a fold in this spot more....but as you can see, flatting and hitting the hand gets kinda spewey
He was not playing LAG at all the only day I played with him (that day). In fact, I would say noone was playing LAG...
Maybe LAG isn't the best way to describe him... maybe just creative (and smart) with ATC?
I honestly feel that I played terrible in this event. I will be quite honest and say that I was trying to be a little more creative because I was getting just steam rolled the entire tourney.
I opted to just call his bet. Pot is 3650. River is:

It aint a bluff.....and if Dereck is 3-barreling, I dont think top-top is ever good in this spot from him.
The lowest his range to 2-barrel is AK, and even that got there now....can't see how you're good here.
Ok, I have been watching this thread waiting to weigh in, here are my thoughts. For the record I do not know what he had in this hand, but I have played with Bulldog a few times.
Pre-flop he could have anything from a strong drawing hand like J9 to a monster. I would not put him on ATC here. After the flop I would raise his bet. I see this as a possible continuation bet, but I would read it as a draw, probably a flush draw, but maybe an 89 open draw. I don't think he leads out with anything that is beating you (any two pair, or a set), I think he would slow play anything that beats top-top, so I would raise.
On the turn the 7 would not scare me, again, I read a draw and his bet of 800 would only further encourage that read. Again, I would not call, I would raise. If I think I am good, I am raising. Calling is only going to allow him to further play his draws. Plus, hitting two pair with Queens and Sevens really allows you to eliminate the early concern of him hitting two pair (like queens and tens) on the flop.
Dereck is very good at playing from EP, so putting pressure on him here would be the right play.
On the river the J is a horrible card. For one, it completes a possible straight draw that I thought he was possibly on. The flush doesn't hit, which is good, but his strong bet on the River is all the information I would need. I would have to fold here. I know that 1600 isn't even half the pot, but if you think you are beat, which I think you are, then folding is the right play. D-nut is right, Dereck may fire two bullets, but firing 3 here is a clear case of "get the F out."
So I don't really agree with calling on the flop and turn as I definitely think he was on a draw of some sort. I would have seen his EP bets as his way of buying another street to hit his hand. Anyway, that's my take on it.
I put him on AK. Bottom line though... I think you probably should be calling getting over 3 to 1. You can be wrong plenty of the time and still be correct in calling.
So what did Dereck end up having here?

After deciding to be stubborn and call (despite KNOWING I'm beat), Dereck showed QdJd and won the pot.
I don't think he was going anywhere if I raise on the flop, but maybe if I put in a big raise on the turn, he'd go away. Or I could have raised PF and taken it down there.
All in all, good hand by Dereck, bad hand by me.
Yeah its tought, you wanted to get to showdown and he got there with the big draw.
Always better ways to play it in hindsight...
