He caught the flush. He was trying to reprisent the ace and caught the flush on the river. Lets say KQs. If he has a set of 7s i dont think he reraises after the flop. Also theres a chance he had A10 or AJ. either way you're beat

He limped to so house or aces full with a10/a7/a8. That being said you're both right, I can't fold but I should like Lappin says. Another reason not to limp A9 utg . Who knows, maybe he has a2 - a6...
