This is the 2nd orbit of the tournament (10-12 hands) Not much in the way of reads other than the BB who seems pretty LAG. How do you play this?

looks good to me. Standard 2nd pair check on the flop. standard value bet on the turn. Standard fold to 4.5x pot on river. I dont see anything else you could do.

I understand showdown value, not perfectly, but don't you have to continuation bet here? If villian is LAG, I would expect him to re-raise you preflop if he had an Ace. If you are not going to c bet on this type of flop, you probably shouldn't have raised in the first place. I think at best, he had K with a weak kicker. He certainly doesn't have AK, AQ, or AT, or he would have reraise pre. If he had KT, or QJ, I think he would have donk bet the turn for value. Not much else makes sense to me. I agree to the fold on the river, but had you played more aggressively. By that time he could have caught up with anything, like 79, 89,T9, etc. I don't think he would have got there had you bet the flop.

Also, seeing as how you are only in L2, how did he double up? What did he show down? Could be very useful information as to how best to play this hand.

Good question. About 3 or 4 hands earlier UTG limped, and then he shoved with JJ. UTG called with QJd - no help and the JJ held up.

Turns out that there were 39 hands I have in PT3 on him. VPIP - 41% PFR 7.7% and River Aggr - 75.

There were only 4 other hands that he showed down during the time I was at the table with him - his other holdings were, K6o, T8o, AKs, 44. He lost a minimal post with K6o, and lost 1/2 his stack with 44. Played the same way he played me in the hand in question.

So with a little better read, do you play it differently? I am asking myself what my normal play here would be, and I can't come up with a good answer. In reality in the early stages like this, I probably fold pre and don't get myself into this situation, but post flop is where I have such a hard time. What hand ranges is he calling from the SB? With a VPIP of 41 I have to assume that his range is 22+, Ax+, Kx+, Q5s+, J7s+, T6s+, 97s+. Given what I know NOW, I would not put him on a PP, since he shows he will overplay them so 77+ is out of his range. Could he have QJ for the straight? Could he have K6?

Thanks for all the thoughts here- these are the situations that I feel like I have a decent starting hand and good position, so I need to find a way to get some chips, but ultimately I find that there are 1,2, 3 of these per game that I leak more chips than I gain, pushing me to be more of a NIT and making me too easy to read when I do get a decent hand.

I don't think he flopped the straight. I don't think there is anyway he checks twice, the flop and then the turn, risking loss of value on the turn.

When I was playing my best in the 45's, I was very agressive when I thought I was ahead. I am probably always c betting the flop and re-evaluating the turn if called.

This. The only one who knows you didn't at least hit that ace is you, and it's obv in the range of hands you'd be raising PF with.

Thanks for the thoughts. I find myself having a hard time with the LAG players like this and know if I want to get better I have to learn to play less than premium hands in position ...
