Gemini is holding their quarterly $250 on April 19th.
What are the chip stacks and blinds/ante structures?
I will find out. They normally have between 70 and 100 players for it.
It's a great tourney. It's the weekend I'll be Vegas so I won't be able to make it, but the one time I played it I took 2nd (I think there were only 80 when I played it). Good starting stack and slow structure (for the Gemini, more typical of the BBP live league structure). I think they have antes in there but I can't remember.
Is there a site where I can get more info about this? Thanks.
There isn't much info on the site but here it is:
The Gemini Players Club
Sorry, forgot to get the structure. I do know the blind levels are 30 minutes long.
I'm definitely interested, if someone could post up the starting stacks and blinds/antes structure. :)
Starting stack is 5000 chips. Blinds start at 25/25. They do not double more than once or twice in the full tournament. They are always in steps. I think the antes start at the 500/1000 level. I hopefully will get the full structure tonight.
I went to the Gemini tonight and took 3rd in the tourney. I was chip leader 3 handed w/ 60k+ and I had AQ. The 2nd big stack was like 49k. Blinds are 2k/4k and I raise to 12k. The BB (2nd stack) shoves. I call, and find im coolered. He turned AK. I lose and I'm crippled and game over.
I could not get the blind structure but I know they are 30 minute levels and you start w/ 5k. I'm almost 100% though that the blind structure goes like this:
25/25, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400, 300/600, 500/1k, 1k/2k, 1.5k/3k, 2k/4k . . . . . . .
I do not know anything about antes but that was the structure i played tonight except no 25/25 level and only 15 minute blinds.
IMPORTANT!!!!!
They are running satellites for the $250 game on Sunday. Call for more info 614-899-9596. I think I will be going tomorrow night for the $50 qualifier. For every $250 in the pot, somebody gets a seat. There is also $100 qualifiers which seem a little easier to make it to the dance.

****** I will mention to you Scott if you are not a member you might get hit with some extra fees. I know the "Facility Use Fee" for that $250 tournament is $25, and normally tournaments have a $10 facility fee. If you are not a member you will have to become one. I don't know if you will get charged to sign up and play or just pay for 1. When I signed up I paid the $25 for the year membership and all my daily fees were waved. Since this is a special occasion they might charge you both still. So signing up for 1 month for $5 plus the $25 for the daily fee, $30 total will be your cheapest option.
OK, I'm planning to give this tournament a go. :)
Go the full year route Scott. When you see the action in the cash games and the tourneys they offer you will play at least once a quarter there.
Can someone please confirm the starting time for this weekend's $250 event?
2pm sunday
I might play. I haven't been to the gemini in over a year.
Do they serve food here?
If not, I'm assuming there's fast food within close walking distance for those of us who can only go about four hours between meals? ;)
This was my first time ever playing at Gemini, so here's a little review...
First off, I didn't think the area isn't too bad. I wasn't worried about my car or my life or anything like that. Inside it's decent. Certainly not upscale, but plenty nice enough to play poker. The bathrooms were clean, they offered snacks, and even brought dinner in from City Barbeque. :) The dealers and other staff were all friendly and competent. We saw plenty of hands for live play in my opinion. The field was very solid. I didn't see very many weak spots in six and a half hours of play.
The tournament structure was pretty good. Starting stacks were 5,000 chips and blind levels were 30 minutes.
Level 1 - 25/25
Level 2 - 25/50
Level 3 - 50/100
Level 4 - 100/200
Level 5 - 100/200/25
Level 6 - 150/300/25
Level 7 - 200/400/50
Level 8 - 300/600/50
Level 9 - 400/800/75
Level 10 - 500/1,000/75
Level 11 - 800/1,600/100
Level 12 - 1,000/2,000/100
Only one thing bothered me about the tournament, and this was sort of minor. At one point we were consolidating tables and the tournament director said, 'seats 1, 2 3 and 4 go to this new table'. At the new table, seats 1, 2, 3 and 4 were open. I was in seat three before, so I assumed I should sit in seat 3 again. But the aggressive and cocky guy in seat 2 told me that we could pick our own seats and he was moving to my left in seat 4. I thought that really sucked. Random reseating would have been more fair. But I didn't at all like the 'race to see who could sit down first'. That seemed a little too much like musical chairs to me.
Regarding my tournament play, I just tried to play good, solid, low variance poker, and tried not to get all in very often. We started with 98 players and I got as high as third in chips at one point. Then my K-K got cracked by 9-4 when I convinced a cocky kid to move all-in on me pre-flop. And then my A-K got cracked by K-8 offsuit who had raised pre-flop then mysteriously called my all-in re-raise. I was disappointed to bust in 21st spot. There were a lot of short stacks by this point, and I should have had a top three stack going into the final table.
I'll definitely go back. Does anyone happen to have a schedule for these quarterly events?
How much was it to get in the club and how much would first have been had you not been bad beat pokered those two times?
I paid $25 for a one year membership. First place was $8,220. Ten spots paid, and I believe a top three finish was realistic.
Scott, glad you liked the tournament. Sorry wasn't there but wasn't feeling great on Sunday. Still sounds like you had a fairly solid finish for never having played there or against most of the players previously.
i've only been to the new Gemini once, and i believe it's still $25 quarterly to join and probably $25 everytime you walk in the door.
the dealers are very competent, as they've been doing this for a long time. many of them were involved with Ohio Charity Gaming years back, and if you ever played there you know exactly how far the whole operation has come -- it used to be a $20 buy-in tournament with 40 starting chips, 1/2 starting blinds increasing every 10 minutes.
you'd be better off buying scratch off tickets is basically what i'm saying.

i'll have to look into playing a tournament (theres a schedule on the site i believe) but i have no plans to return to the cash game. i'm simply outclassed, too many super aggressive players with much deeper pockets than i've got. not uncommon to see several $1k+ stacks in the 1/3 NL game.
