Ok, so I dont follow much of the live circus, nor read a lot of poker news. But it just seem that there is aloooot of random red pros on fulltilt..

Marco Liesy I played with in the 6max 22,5K last sunday I think..

He played super nitty --> and was not that great at all it seemed..

He was rude towards the other players in the chat..

I googled him and sharkscoped him. Loosing player over xthousands of mid stakes tourneys, and the profile sites I found on him congratulated him with a career of some mincashes AND A 16th IN A EPT WOOP WOOP.
Could somebody please tell me what makes a player red pro?

They have connections or won a big live tournament!
As you know, a friend of mine is pro @ partypoker: he told me that another Brazilian guy (there are very few pros at party...) became pro after he won a live MTT, only because they needed someone to attract Brazilian players (poker boom!). He plays horrible and doesnt beat NL200...

You have to also remember that online MTTs aren't the only way to make money playing poker. A lot of the red pros were killing live cash and tournaments before online poker even started. Maybe their numbers are so poor online because they just don't care enough to get good at it, and would rather stick with the live game?

Hence why I put in that I couldnt find one single live score which could justify this guy as a redpro.

correct me if i'm wrong, but I also heard FT pros get paid by the hour, so for a not so profitable player, being a complete nit might be the best way for him to make cash.

Seems to be ultrawierd that a player who get a sponsership for beating live cash games would play a bunch of tourneys online.. And I cant see why anybody only beating highstakes live cash games would get a sponsorship since its not very much PR in that area

if he was a white male from the US I guarantee he wouldnt be a red pro but sites like stars and tilt are looking to expand their name and brand into other countries which is why you often see red pros you have never heard of. A lot of them aren't very good they just fit the criteria of what the site was looking for in a pro at the time.

You can always email [email protected] and ask

He's from Germany which seems to be a pretty active market in Europe maybe he knows somebody who knows somebody and after a few cashes at the EPT end up with a FT deal.

He has his own website which means he's self promoting quite a bit (funny how the news on his website are about other people making money).
... and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "No"

Its just marketing. The players skills dont have much to do with anything... Kinda like the Jimmy Fricke thing... Hes a really good player online and live but has no appeal towards any market of players and full tilt wouldnt gain much by sponsoring him.
