Exclamation Why can't I win online?

Well, Ok those are some great goals guys, and from what i've seen you should be able to make it and more!
One question though. I have read most all relevant books and studied hand histories, betting patterns and analyzed my hand histories until i'm blue. I've tried multiple ways of playing all hands , from all positions, and even gone down the road of " well, if the donkeys can win with it , so can I plays! "
no dice, why can't I win online? I seem to have a great month ie two months ago on stars, but can't keep it up. I'll build my measley $200 into $1500, then go broke. I've attempted the BR spreadsheet Scot put up to some profit, but not enough to warrant the head aches of grinding.
Any help? or other suggestions? I'm not greedy, and don't want/need to make a million, but I would like to build a continuous BR and keep it there!
So, in keeping with the thread subject, My 2009 goal for online poker is .............. Breakthrough and win one decent sized tourney ($2000.00 or above) and keep a br stable!

If I look at your Full Tilt tournament statistics for December, I see that you had a very healthy month. You played 111 games and had a 25% ROI. Why not continue on this same path for a while and see where it takes you?

Certainly you realize that approach isn't a winning one in the long run.

I don't meant to sound pessimistic in any way but I think these two goals are in conflict with each other. I can't tell you how many times I went broke trying to hit that one big score. And I've watched many of my friends to the same thing - over and over again. I really believe that the most prudent way to build an online bankroll is by NOT trying to make that one big score.

Scot, thanks for the speedy reply!
Yes, I had a decent month, but that is my point. With what I won, I now have a whopping $26 in the account, without cashing out. Have since taken a bit of a break from tilt.
Yes, I do realize that it was a losing long term way lol, that was my point actually!
also, as for the big score. I understand going broke, and have now for almost 8 yrs of online play. Over all for 8 yrs I am at a total online loss of $8000.00 give or take. And I always hear about how people buy in, and win big or continually go up and not broke. I'm just wondering, is there hope for me? I'm not a bad player by any means that I can see other than the seemingly evident overall, but I do have my banner months. Also, in cash I predominantly play Omaha, and I'm sure this has a bit to do with the swings I take as it is a much more volatile game .
So, anyway, I see your point on the contradicting goals................. hmmm maybe my problem??????????? lol I guess I will just leave it to this............ I will set a goal of total year being 40% positive ROI .

Maybe I'm missing something here. O.P.R. shows that you had a $310 profit in December on Full Tilt. So even if you started the month with zero, you should still have $310 in your account now.

For the most part, I think it's only natural for people to talk aboout how much they win, and dismiss their losses. Think about all the people you know who play online. I would guess that ~ 90% of them will tell you how much money they make. But the truth is that ~90% of all players LOSE money playing online.

Definitely. Let's pretend you start this year with $310 in your account, and have a 25% ROI each month. Check out how fast your bankroll would grow:

    1/1/09 = $310
    2/1/09 = $388
    3/1/09 = $484
    4/1/09 = $605
    5/1/09 = $757
    6/1/09 = $946
    7/1/09 = $1,183
    8/1/09 = $1,478
    9/1/09 = $1,848
    10/1/09 = $2,310
    11/1/09 = $2,887
    12/1/09 = $3,609
    12/31/09 = $4,511

I see your point on the BR growth, and that would be fine with me honestly. But to be honest, I believe my problem is the fact that I play "cash" also, which isn't tracked, and that is where the profit goes! So , I guess I will have to go to playing strictly Tourneys online, although that to me can get boring and take up a lot of time that sometimes I won't have due to the duties of my job as a professional driver. Because of my work, I am unable to schedule any certain time to play, so that is sporadic at best, and therefore the reason I slip back to playing cash, and hence losing my bankroll lol.
I love the input, and honestly would love to play more tourneys, considering I love the 27 man sit n go versions! I also like the 45 man, just haven't been able to crack one of those!
Thanks again, and as always all input is welcomed!
