    Patience

I'm playing the in the monthly RakeTheRake freeroll tournament right now, which I have never done well in before.

I decided that my strategy today would be to only play premium hands unless I started to get short-stacked. But until then, it'd be ABC poker with no monster bluffs, etc.

Turns out that I just experienced the longest run I've ever had of being card dead. Believe it or not, for the first 150 hands, I actually only saw 5% of all flops, didn't make it to a single showdown.

Needless to say I was shortstacked for a long time, and tried to do a nice job of picking my all-in spots. And it seems to FINALLY be paying off. In the last six hands, I finally managed to double up, and then I got aces on the very next hand and took out a short(er)-stack.

In the last ten minutes, I've gone from 500th place to 25th place.

So the moral of the story seems to be that sometimes patience can pay off.
