Overbetting on the flop

I have seen this quite a bit more than usual lately...and am trying to understand what the point of it is. I looked for a couple examples, and this is a typical example. Usually early in a tournament (been playing a lot of the Rush 135 mans) and it is usually a limper that ends up overbetting the flop.

There have been several hands where the overbet saved me a lot of chips (sd/fd type hands) and I can't decide if this is a good player trying to get value from fish, or is it just a spewy play that really has limited upside. Since most of these have come in Rush tourneys, I haven't seen the final hand...

What do you make of these types of bets on the flop?

I find most ppl who bet a pot or more on dry boards like 379 rainbow usually are holding two overs and missed with hands like AK AQ AJ KQ QJ

there are a million reasons why people overbet the flop. in my mind, its awful (although i have seen some good players use it certain circumstances to perfection).

At a $4 rush tourney it can mean someone limped with a strong hand hoping to limp raise and get a large pot at low blinds, then when nobody raises, they panic and bet large on the flop (often with little reasoning). It can mean they have a draw (not sure why they would want to overbet with a draw). I've seen it used with the nuts to try to inflate the pot against a station or if there is a draw on the board. Also as a bluff on a dry board since most players have no interest in playing to an overbet for a small pot.

Really you just have to decide what they are doing based on the type of player they are, the board texture, and the decide how to best play the hand (as you do every hand ;) )

In your particular hand, I tend to reraise quite often. Players at the $4 tourneys are rarely leading out with trips and if they do it typically won't be an overbet. Im thinking he has like A9 or something along those lines as shoe mentioned. (raise to 360, give up to a 3bet, and fire 450 on the turn if he flats then checks is likely my line in this hand. If he flats or raises my turn bet, im obv giving up but I think it has a high success rate)
