    Question Should I check-raise this river bet/bluff?

    Binion's Part 2

    Blinds 100-200

My stack has been worked up to roughly 12500

UTG+2 limps, 2 behind the button limps, I am in the SB with , and I complete. I know, I know....bad. But I did it. BB checks.

    Flop comes

    Checks around.

    Turn is

This time, I stab at this rough board for 600, and I get called from UTG+2 (UTG+2 is easily the most aggressive player at the table.....and I have really been VERY active.....there was a point in Level 4 where he raised 5 consecutive hands preflop......haven't decided whether he is a really good player or if he is just hard to play against)

    River card is a

    I check.....UTG+2 bets out 1200.

Again....this is where I get stupid. Now, why is this guy leading out here? What could he possibly have that he is "value betting"? Diamonds missed, straight missed.....he limped in EP and didnt show any aggression until now. I'd probably just take it down if he hit the river.....Now I had given this pot up when he called the turn.....but I didnt expect this move at the pot from him....and it made my radar go off. I'm considering a raise here......

    Have I lost my mind??

I think the most likely holding is 89 for the flopped open ender, he called getting about the right odds on the turn and is now value betting. Of course he could have other holdings but you asked what he could be value betting and I think 89 answers that question the best.

I can't think of anything he can have here that you beat, except a flush draw that missed. I think our obviously correct move here is a simple fold, unless you are feeling very confident in your read. And in that case, a small raise should do the trick.

BUT....my instincts get me in trouble too.

I actually raised this guy on the end, thinking that he had a complete whiff like me. I guess if I'm gonna follow my instincts 100% of the time, I suppose if my read was air, I had to make this play.

He flipped a turned set of 2's, and I mucked before he turned them over....
