    Live Tournament Play

Tonight I played in a $50 BI 1r +1A in Powell. There was a field of 46, top 6 cash.

There were 10 or 11 left (2 tables). Blinds were 1000/2000. I have an average stack of $19,000. There were 2 or 3 huge stacks and everyone else was short stacked (6BB - 14BB). Only one of the huge stack was at my table.

I am in the BB with
    UTG (around $40k) limps
    Folds around, including the SB.

UTG had limped 2 or 3 times earlier in the tournament from EP. I raised 2.5x - 3xBB from late position and was able to make her fold twice before. At that point in the tournament, she was still among the chip leaders and I had probably 20BB.

With a limp I dont think she has a monster as I dont think she is a creative player.

I figured that was the response I would get. No one at the table had the push fold mentality. However, a 2.5BB raise was usually very effective at this point. I had made her fold twice before with a simple raise and I didnt feel like I wanted to risk my tournament life since I was in position to cash.

    I raised to $7,000
    She calls.

    Back to the story...

Before the flop is shown, I shove in the dark.

    Flop comes...

She thinks about it for a second and says "I think I have to call." After some more pondering, she counts off $12k chips and shows

    Turn

    River

You're usually ahead of her limping range, and taking down the blinds right now can make a nice impact to your stack.

I would have also pushed pre-flop.

Hindsight of course is always 20/20. I thought I could get away with a steal without risking all my chips (especially since I had been successful before). The more I think about it, the more my decision to protect some of my chips didnt make sense, considering I went ahead and shoved in the dark anyway.

I think I got caught up inthe style of the tournament where no one shoved and people were calling or raising with no FE.
