    Any thoughts? $1 6-max

There is 110 left at this point w 102 getting paid. Ill later post whether i called or folded and whether i won or lost the pot. This was a tough decision for me, so im curious what others would have done.

    Hand #12849405786 begins at 2009/06/16
pretator10 posts the ante of 25
Occitan posts the ante of 25
Zizzlin posts the ante of 25
RiesaerChaot88 posts the ante of 25
AcesFull1026 posts the ante of 25
the barrans posts the ante of 25
    Dealing down cards
    Dealt to AcesFull1026 [Ks 8s]
RiesaerChaot88 posts the small blind of 120
AcesFull1026 posts the big blind of 240
    the barrans calls 240.
    pretator10 folds.
    Occitan folds.
    Zizzlin folds.
    RiesaerChaot88 folds.
    AcesFull1026 checks.
    Dealing Flop [7d Kh 4s]
    AcesFull1026 checks.
    the barrans bets 240.
    AcesFull1026 calls 240.
    Dealing Turn [6d]
    AcesFull1026 checks.
    the barrans bets 240.
    AcesFull1026 calls 240.
    Dealing River [5d]
    AcesFull1026 bets 1,250.
the barrans raises to 14,845, and is all-in.

I had 9300 left at this point (almost 40 BBs)

One of my thoughts when making this decision was that I still had 40 BBs on the bubble, which is PLENTY to fold and get into the money... also that you gotta play for first! lol Lookin forward to seein everyones thoughts!

    Wow. Tough spot for sure.

You have the second nuts. This is a big risk, at an important time in the tournament.

Did you have any reads on your opponent? Was he overbetting good hands, or shoving the river often?

Wow, definately an ugly spot to be in!! What sort of hand can villain be limping UTG with? AA/KK/AK/88/A8/89 or 2 diamomds, for me I wouldnt rule out AA/KK/AK/88, I cant see UTG limping a suited rag ace or gap connector/suited combo of 89 or any other 2 diamond hand other than AK, if hes hit a backdoor flush hes just got extremely lucky!!
He must give you credit for an 8 at least with your river bet and been in the BB, his turn bet doesnt look like a bet to try and get you off the pot but an attempt to build the pot. Hes not raising you too much and knowing its a limped pot preflop you could well have a BB special 2 pair or even a set and this doesnt seem to concern him, the river card could be a really ugly card for him but why does he shove and put his tourney life on the line knowing that you most probably have the 8 or the flush yourself, I initially thought KK but he cant shove that surely with the straight out there so Im leaning towards AK diamonds or 88 and for me AK UTG is a raise so I think hes pushing a hand with an 8 in himself and settling for a chop if you can make the call with the 8 yourself.

Im probably miles off, but I have had a go!! ;-)

I had just got transferred to this table so i had absolutely no read on this guy. I regret not reraising him on either the flop or the turn for the sake of finding out where i stood, however my thinking on the turn was that i didnt want to get 3bet off of my hand having what i assumed a 5 or an 8 to win the hand. I figured he could have a VERY wide range after only min betting on the flop and turn but thought his most likely holdings were KT KJ or KQ.

However i could make an argument for 44-KK AK AQd AJd ATd lol

On the river I convinced myself that he had 88 or was overplaying a set. Even though i wrote in the chat that i put him on Kd Xd... (which doesnt make sense that i would say that and call... lol)

*result* I call, he shows KdTd we both flopped top and made our runner runners

That's called the Verbal Freeroll. You say what they have and call. If you're right about what they have, you look smart but lose the pot. If you are wrong, you win the pot. No matter what you win. A lot of people do it to make themselves feel good about making bad calls. I'm not saying I could fold, just saying what I tend to do .

    Tough one!

With no read on the guy, I define my hand earlier like you suggested and figure out where I am at. Even when he shows you are in trouble its hard to get away with a hidden straight like you have at the end of this hand. I think playing it for so cheap from the flop is a mistake, calling on the river is not.
