    88 in SB....WSOP ME

This is the 1st of 3 really bad spots I put myself in after the dinner break. Please analyze.....

    Blinds are 400-800-100
My stack size is roughly 80K, and villian is in that neighborhood as well.

It folds to the cutoff, who makes a standard raise of 2100. Folds to me on the SB, and I look at 88. I didn't have a firm read on the villian, but he is his active level is about average...and a skilled player. I had given up a lot of my blinds to this point....but I didn't 3 bet for two reasons. 1.) I really felt like that since I had given up a number of blinds that they were expecting a 3 bet from me very soon, and 2.) Guys pretty standardly call 3 bets in position so far....so it really does me no good to play a big pot out of position with this hand.....so I call.

Flop is 10-3-4, two clubs. I check, villian bets 2700, and I call. Turn is a red 2, and I check again. Villian bets 6500 this time, and I raise to 14500...he thinks a minute and ships, and I fold.

Is this a simple overplay on my part?

Now that I type this out....I really don't like my line here. I can't really rep an overpair here....it's hard to rep a 10, but I guess maybe a little bit...I could rep a set (maybe), but I think it would be a poor way to play one in this spot.

I think maybe I got caught up in the "last one to bet" takes it down, which seemed to be the story of the day.....and I got out of line.

Maybe I figured this one out myself, but I'd love some input on how to keep me out of these situations.....it's freaking hard to keep your mind for 10 hours!!

First of all, he probably had you. Don't think you got bluffed out.

By just calling out of position though, you should be planning to setmine, which is fine, you have plenty of implied to do so.

If this is the sort of guy that you think will probably fire 2-3 streets though then you probably should raise or fold the flop. I don't know though, your turn checkraise does look pretty scary to me...

i don't necessarily think the pf flat call was bad. pretty standard with 88. you could have raised it one to get a bit more info, but i probably flat call too and get a read on a flop. i think you raise the flop here and get more information sooner. hard to say without knowing a table/player read. my opinion is your raise was late and you could have made a smaller one sooner and saved some chips. i maybe raise pre or for sure the flop bet. pretty tough spot though.

ps - rock that shorty. you can do it!

I think the pre-flop call is standard here. Post-flop, I think you can either call or check-raise. Calling and re-evaluating on the turn is less optimal in my opinion for two reasons. First, it's very likely that another overcard will come, making your decisions even tougher. And second, if another low card comes, and you decide to check-raise, you're now forced to invest a much bigger percentage of your stack.
