Call or raise? subtitle: Did i screw myself?

This is an on-going cunundrum I have with my cash game, I don't know whether I'm acting prudently to secure my wins in moderate pots or screwing myself out of winning reall nice pots.....

Playing 1-3 NL at Gemini last night;
Pre-flop raised to $10, me in late position with , 2 callers in front of me, I call, one caller in the SB, 5 to the flop.

Flop is , original raiser bets out $25, folded around to me, out of turn action behid me as the SB calls, so his $25 is committed regardless of whether I raise or call.

I chose to raise to $75. Both other players folded, the raiser showed as he mucked, SB didn't show, I put him on an open ended str8 draw.

My thought was this; I bet $75 to try to lock down a pot of approx $100. With the pre-flop raise I doubted that anyone flopped the straight, I felt pretty confident I was ahead, but with 2 other players in the hand I didn't want to allow any cheap draws, or get out-setted on the turn or river. On the other hand, had I merely called or maybe even min raised, I might have easily gotten another $100 into the pot on the last two streets.

Even if someone had an overpair, I think you should WANT them to try to 'out-set' you. In this case, they'd be drawing to only two outs, for ~ 4% chance to hit on the turn, then another ~ 4% chance to hit on the river. What I don't think you can afford is to let them chase an open-ended straight, with ~ 33% chance of hitting.

On the other hand, had I merely called or maybe even min raised, I might have easily gotten another $100 into the pot on the last two streets.

Definitely a possiblity, but how would you have known when they hit?

I have to agree. I think you take the pot down there. If you were called then they are making a mistake and that's what you want. If you don't give them odds that make their call a mistake, you are making the mistake and will lose in the long run.

I like the call there... Although it is never wrong to win a pot.. Most likely they are not drawing to a open ended str8... and if they are they will most likely call your raise... Esp. there... I would say just call and see what the next card brings.. Let them fire out again and if the turn didn't bring what you put them on then re-raise and end it...
