Hollywood Hand

I posted this in the other thread but wanted to get input from someone not local to the Midwest who wouldnt open the other thread.

Hollywood Fall Classic. Event #1. 20,000 starting stack. 40 min levels.

My stack was about 15,000. I was the most aggressive at the table taking down pots with multiple limpers both pf and postflop. I was sitting with 22,000 but gave back ~7,000 when my TP lost to trips twice.

During level 2 , I limped from the small blind with J9. BB raises. This means nothing to me since it is early and is most likely a resteal. I call. Flop comes

. I check. BB checks. Turn is

. I bet 2/3, BB calls. River is

. Bingo! I bet 2/3 and BB raises about 2,500. I have about $10k behind. I say out loud something to the effect of "I dont think you have a 6 because you checked behind. I think you have an ace and looking for a chopped pot." I'm trying to give him the impression I also have an ace so that he will call my eventual shove. And call my shove he did as he flipped over

My question is did I play this bad or incorrectly? Would a better player have sensed he were beat or that something was up? The last several large live events that I have been in, I have lost huge hands and or been knocked out because of monsters that I ran into. For example at Hammond AKhh..flop K34 and lose to a turned straight. Next hand, raise pf with AQ and lose to 36 who flopped a straight. Again at Hammond I run into flopped quads.

I'm starting to doubt my live poker skill. All comments, good and bad are appreciated.

Im not a tournament player at all but I would reraise here every time, if I hadnt reraised all in I would call a reshove all in. We basically have the nuts, super cooler imop.

ummm, yeah, the only questionable play would be calling OOP preflop, but other than that, the hand played itself. If you aren't willing to go broke once in a while with j9 vs qq blind v blind, just fold preflop...otherwise, open up anoth...oh wait...grab a beer??? lol

LOL. I immediately asked the Tournament Director if I could reregister for Day 1b. He said no said I promptly registered for the 2nd Chance Donkament in which I was like the 4th donkey to get eliminated.

You are NOT doing anything wrong. I've been having the same problem lately too - and its turning me into a super nit...

I have crushed live cash and tournaments (not as much as cash) this entire year, and by crush I mean 2+ buy ins avg and 50% + tournament roi... But lately I keep running into coolers and weird situations.

In this particular hand I probably only call his reraise only because to me there is no value and he is not calling raise reraise reraise with worse than qq 66 q9.

Doesn't mean you aren't incorrect to rereraise... Don't be too nitty, keep playing your game - I've started to change mine and its killing my profits.

This is what i learned Deep stack tourneys early on. For the most part. The players who sit there and don't do anything. Don't bluff they don't know how. So his raise preflop isn't for position. He is raising with a hand. Now QQ has to be in play after he checks the flop. then calls teh turn. Then raises the river. If you think for a few minutes on a big hand like this you can come to that conclusion. but say hey if only QQ beats me i have to call and see it just in case. Losing the 3k to his raise on the river is fine. No reason to push. I think i played 6 7 live events this year. Won 2 and cashed in another 2.

If you would like to talk about live strategy or hands im down for that. Since i might change to playing live tourneys next year

I think that the majority of the players in this field are not capable of checking behind with the nuts, or any monster hand as far as that goes. So I can't automatically assume he has QQ or even a 6.
