Depends heavily on your reads against opponent. How active is he, he could have a very wide range. (1st hand in 5 rotations, or fifth hand in this rotation, how does he typically play postflop?) Not nearly all opponents will think this hand through as deeply as rounder69 has suggested. I am on the fence you will likely have to make your decision based on your reads and I see no wrong move here.Quote:

The short version of the rest of this hand is that I insta-pushed, and he thought for a few seconds and called, showing :Ks::9s:, probably the only hand I did not put him on, but a hand that was indicative of the type of play that was going on at the tourney, and something I was not expecting in my first WSOP event. Having done one now, I am happy to find out that there are just as many terrible players in them as there are online, or in home games, or the Gemini, or anywhere else poker is played.
The turn was the :Ad:, the 4th best card I could have picked from the deck (with any Q and J/10 diamonds the others), but the river was a blank. Looking back, I guess I could have folded, since he didn't really have any reason to make a play, and had I taken a little time to think, I might have. But, there are more hands that would make that raise there that I would beat than hands that would be beating me (some of you listed them, like QQ, JJ, KJ, K10, another KQ). In the end, I wish I had seen this guy play more hands so I could have had a feel for how he played to make a better decision, but alas...
Another thing I learned from this hand to take with me to other large live tourneys is that changing tables can throw off your game. Looking back, I think that's what happened to me here. The table I started at was pretty tight, and the table I moved to was extremely loose, with several stacks over twice as big as mine. Instead of continuing to play my game with slight variations to loosen up, I loosened up too much and it cost me. I'll just remember that when I play at the WSOP this Summer!

Yep. I have learned this lesson the hard way a couple times....I definitely agree that it requires major adjustments to your game sometimes, especially the first half hour or so as you begin to watch, play hands and take mental notes of the new images at your table. I'm apparently still taking time for this concept to sink in :D It is a good point!Quote:

There was no way player A could have a read on you since he just got to the table., so you had to know he probably wasn't making a move at that point and time.
Something I recommend in the future: Start asking questions to player A. Ask why he is betting so much. Look at the way he answers. Where are his hands (flat on the cards, or in a bridge)?
Are his arms folded? Does he tilt his head when he answers? Is his head close to his shoulders when he answers? Is he sitting back in his chair?
Exhaust EVERY means you have to get information before making a tournament ending decision.
