Input Wanted for Bad Beats Poker League

Dana Reutter and I host this league, and we’re most likely going to start our fifth season on Saturday, January 26th. There’ll be two games per month for six months.

We’d like to get some input on the buy-in amount. The best games in town right now typically draw ~ 40 people, and have $40 to $50 buy-ins. Our games will have a similar structure and we also hope to attract the best players.

Our main difference is that we can only seat 20 players, and we’ll allow two alternates, for a total of 22 players per game. Since our game is about half the size, we are leaning towards increasing the buy-in. It was $50 last season, and we’re wondering just how big of a game people in this area would like to play.

We don’t want to make the buy-in so high that we only get ten players. That isn’t our intent at all. Since we can only seat half as many players, we’d like to have the biggest possible game that mostly fills up each time.

So if you’re interested in playing in our fifth season games, please give us your input in this poll. Thanks in advance!

I've enjoyed the game as it is, but wouldn't mind a higher buy-in, assuming we don't lose people. I wonder what the interest would be if you made your event a deepstack event. I think it'd be pretty cool to have a deepstack event twice a month. I think this would make it easier to get people to agree to a higher buy

i know... What's up with that?? You can't tell me that no one has any opinions!!

I tend to agree with Charlton. The idea of a larger buy-in will be more attractive with a deeper stack, like $10k. I think the blinds and structure works well as is.

Just want to make sure everyone gets a chance to participate in this poll. We'll most likely be making a decision this weekend, and starting our fifth season next weeknd.

I haven't played at your game yet, but having experience in running many tournaments, I think that increasing the buy-in will only invite more / better players rather than discourage others. A $75-$100 buy-in will promote better play and improve the quality of the game. Being able to seat only 20 players is actually a good thing, because it is easier to fill, you don't have to worry about scaring too many people away, and it is not that difficult to find 20 "good" players. The challenge that Bulldog and I have is that with 40-50 people, you need to be careful about making the buy-in too high or schedule too aggressive. With 20 players, you guys have a luxury, not a handicap. I am not sure how much I will be able to play in the upcoming season, but I like a higher buy-in to make it more profitable and rewarding for navigating a tough field.

    in my opinion

I like the idea of increasing the buy in but i bet it does make the fields smaller. I played in your last season and i think many of the people who played can not afford to lose 400 dollars a month. Some games only had 13 people in them. I do like the idea of increasing the chip stacks. I feel like if the buy in 75 make the stack 7500 or if its is 50 make the stack 5000 or a 100 make the stack 10000. I think you get the point

There will only be two games per month this season, instead of the previous four.

As of right now, we're leaning toward a $75 buy-in with 7,500 starting chip stacks.

We'll wait for some more votes though before we finalize this.

Scott have you considered taking some of the toc money and giving it to the people who finish at the top of the league?

Don't you think you take home enough of the prize pool already?
