    Exclamation Limit Hold'em for Beginners

Many of us are most experienced in No-Limit Hold'em, and aren't quite sure how to change things up in Limit Hold'em.

Having only played Limit a few times, the three main differences I noticed were as follows:

    1. There are commonly five or six players seeing a flop.
    2. You can't bet enough to make anyone fold any sort of draw.
    3. No one can bet enough to make you fold any sort of draw.

Here is a description of the betting rules from Full Tilt:

In Limit Hold 'em, each betting round has a fixed bet. In $5/$10, the small blind is $2.50, the big blind is $5, and the first two rounds of betting are in increments of $5. The last two rounds of betting are in increments of $10. There is a maximum of three reraises per betting round.

So how do these differences impact the way this game should played at a high level?

Should you change your starting hand requirements and if so, in what way?

Should you change your continuation betting frequency?

    How should you handle draws?

What other aspects of the game should be played differently to be a successful Limit Hold’em player?

    Cool

Limit i rarely play i believe it requires more patience than anything. I might try out but i remeber when u had A J and scott raised everyone called u miss the flop and couldnt bluff everyone would call. so it makes harder to play i think playing alot with patience and you will get a good feel in what to do because of the experience u have playing other than that read book

Limit was the main game that was available pre poker boom (2003) and before Rounders came out. Before Rounders you were on a table in about 30 min. or so after Rounders was out you drove 3 hrs to the game and then you waited 5 hrs to get on the table. The casino closed at 5:00am and reopened at 11:00 am so I had to sleep in my car to get in line at 10:00am just to get a seat.

Limit holdem played for profit meant tight hand selection,(AA,-77,Ak) If you were on an agressive table and had AA you limp in EP and when you get raised you reraise(sandbagging) which is one of the best tools for limit. You only fire 2 barrels in limit on the flop and turn and if your donkey is still with you at the river you do not usually fire the 3rd barrel because he will call for 1 more bet.

If you are playing draws then you raise and reraise the flop and turn with str8 and flush draws semi bluffing to build pots to get paid the max when you hit your draws. If you are heads up at the river there is no cap on raises so when you have the nuts keep raising. I remember heads up at the river being raised 23 times when I had the royal flush.

If I was teaching someone to play poker(noob) I would start them off in limit because when they make a mistake it just costs one more bet instead of their stack in nolimit.
