    Looking for some coaching

    Hi guys and gals,

Just recently I've undergone an awful cooler which has lasted for a few weeks. It has resulted in a 2K downswing which, while doesn't seem a lot, the fact that I only 6 table and mix up my games between $11 and $26 stakes, makes it fairly significant. So I am left with the question, am i playing bad or have I genuinely just been unlucky lately.

I could rattle on about how extraordinary my bad luck has been on Full Tilt and the very many bad beats I've endured but I am sure everyone has experienced the same thing and that is outside the purpose of this message.

While I have been unlucky I am also aware that my game has leaks that need plugging. I am still developing my ability with the game. While I have improved significantly in recent months I know I have a long way to go. I think there could nothing better than to have a good player with an established record of good performances to look at my game and help me iron out problems. I know some of my leaks are HUGE. I still don't think I am playing the short stack well and I am a bit timid when forced to put a whole average stack into the middle on a decent hand if an opponent is showing strength. I am still scared to lose my stack and that is a big weakness.

Is there someone who would be willing to coach me on a per hour basis? What would be the cost per hour and how would we go about it? I like the idea of someone watching me play and giving me feedback over a Skype hook up.

I just want to get better at poker more than anything. I love the game and have invested huge chunks of my energy, time and money on it over the last 2 years. I don't mind losing if I know I am playing good poker.

I'd suggest J4bberW0cky for the 26s... he coached me a while ago and helped my game quite a bit!

Do you know what he charges Aaron? (Or should I call you Stu?)

I will ask him, he seems to be a good player.

Can't remember exactly, but it was much less than I expected (since he is such a beast + a cool guy )
I'd just PM him and I'm sure he'll give you his e-mail to discuss what you are looking for exactly (/sweat sessions; HH reviews etc. )

Edit: haha, I prefer Aaron :P

Talking to one of the great players like jabberwockey would be a great idea for you.

Another thing you can do is get on a pay site like pokerpwnage, I have been a member of it since November and I am up over 10k since joining it. I am definitely better at the 90mans and mtts since joining there.

I was already a good player before joining but I am trying to take the next step. They also have many professionals to get lessons, ranging from $100/hr and up. It is steep but if it moves your game up it pays for itself.

Another good feature is it has a member tourney every week ($5 buy in) where the top 3 win a free lesson from a choice of free pros and the most peeps in the tourney were 12 so that is a huge overaly. That in and of itself pays for the monthly fee if you take advantage of it. I won one from their resident omaha expert and my lesson focused on limit omaha 8b and after that lesson I played in the stars $20 1kg of limit omaha 8b and won it.

Getting on a pay site can help your game, if you want mtts PokerPwnage is good. I am sure cardrunners is good if you got enough full tilt points.

I chopped the limit o8 tourney tonight that i had won last month.

Anthony I just want to point out how much my lesson helped me and I dont even play omaha much.

Just one or two changes in your game can help lots, so what ever route you choose I encourage some coaching. You might be 95% there with you game but picking up another percent = a lot better results.

So Anthony get some expert help and your game will improve, I know I am a better player since getting it.

Hey Kennl, my username is the same as here - Ant8472.

I've seen you on a lot of my 45 man tables lately. I guess that is likely to happen given we are both in Oz.

Hey Cambo, thanks for the advice.

I've checked out Pokerpawnage a few times and have baulked at the join up fee even though I know I should make the investment. Having a full time job and other committments means that when I have time for poker I find myself playing it, rather than taking time out to study it.

With their coaching, the rates are pretty exorbitant with some of the pros going up as much as $400 per hour. Although I think it will pay itself over the long term I would rather watch some of the videos of hand play and see if my game improves from there and then consider some personalised coaching from that site.

I definitely need some coaching on MTTs but I am focussing on the Multi table SNGs right now. A lot of what I would learn playing these games correctly will go a long way towards MTT play as well.

I like the look of Card Runners as well. Didn't know you could use FTP Points.

Thanks Cameron. I am definitely going to get some coaching. I love the game too much to play at 95%.
