    Question Vegas Reviews?

Could we have a forum for reviews on hotels/casinos/card rooms? I would be interested in the opinions from everyone on their travels. I think it would be valuable information for those of us researching upcoming travel, especially coming from people we know.

Good idea! I think it allows us to share where the good places to play, stay and eat are And if I'm an expert on anything, it would be eating.

Thanks Scott. Hopefully this bump will inspire some people to add their personal reviews to this thread. I haven't been there in 5 years so I don't think my reviews would be very relevant at this time.

    Vegas info

    Hello all,
I am heading back to Vegas for my fourth time this weekend and staying through Thurs next week. I am always looking for input from everyday people on various poker rooms, hotels, restaurants, etc.

In the past I have stayed at the Luxor, MGM Grand and at the Aladin (now Planet Hollywood). These three are kinda middle of the road price wise on the strip. I wanted to have a nice room/hotel without spending a fortune.

The Luxor was the least expensive of the three but the tower room we got was very nice. The bad thing about the Luxor is that their poker room there was small and no good tournaments. This is where I played my first $2/4 game in Vegas. I must of played $2/4 for 5 or 6 hours each night and drank the entire time. Even though I was playing pretty well, the rake and tips make it hard to profit much from $2/4. I think I was about even by the end, but for all the entertainment and free drinks, I considered it a definite win. The luxor is almost all the way at the bottom of the strip so you are almost always walking or driving.

The MGM is a pretty nice place to stay. Huge. Seems like a long walk just between the casino and most of the rooms. Very nice poker room. Good size. Good cash games. Low buyin tournaments are a bit fast paced though. I made quite a bit on the 3/6 limit game here and on a couple $65 SNG's. Lost a couple hundo on the 1/2 NL over the course of my stay, but was only my second time playing 1/2NL. If you stay at a hotel that you plan on playing poker at a couple hours a day BE SURE to call the poker room ahead of time to ask about a poker room rate. I saved I think $20 a night on the room for me and my buddy logging a min of 2 hours each a day in the poker room.

The Aladin/ Planet Hollywood. I stayed here on my first visit to Vegas about three years ago. It has a pretty nice central location on the strip. But the extra cost of the room wasn't really worth it. I haven't seen the rooms after the re-theming, but they did recently move their poker room in the last year or so. Their new poker room just seems very comfortable to me. Not real big or small. Competition is about average. Made some money on the 1/2NL game there last time I played. Just about all the low buyin tournaments (<$100) on the strip have pretty sucky structures, but from what I remember their low buyin tournament structure sucked a little less than most. Oh, and the poker room is right next to the restroom! You can fold UTG+1, do your thing and wash your hands and still get back to post the BB. Sahara had probably the best low buyin structure, but you either need wheels or to pay more than you would expect for the tram.

I've done a bit more research and booked a room at the Flamingo this time. It has a great location on the strip (right across from the Caesars Palace). I'm a little uncertain how the quality will be compared to other places I've stayed, but needed to keep the cost down a little since I am staying six nights this time. But I am staying in one of their "GO Room's" which reviewers have mostly liked.

My goal this time is to play in more of the $100-$200 buy-in tournaments. There appear to be some great tournaments with very good structures in this price range at the Caesars and the Venetian. The Flamingo is a very short distance from both, so I hope I like the Flamingo! If so, I may make it my home on future trips.

I haven't kept a daily log / posted trip reports in the past, but think I will this time. A couple sites that I like checking out before a trip are: Las Vegas Poker Rooms Reviews, Tournaments, No-Limit Holdem (many people post their full trip reports there, and you can sort the poker rooms by user ratings ) as well as Rate Las Vegas ( users rate various hotels , shows , restaurants, etc)

Mike - I have stayed at the Flamingo four times in the past year and it is great. Sure, the rooms are older and nothing fancy, but you don't seem the party in your hotel room type. I would assume you're more interested in getting out and whooping some poker ass!

So you will find for the small price, it is an unbeatable location. Incredibly convenient to both Caesars AND Venetian, which I 100% agree with you offer the BEST tournament structures in town. They range from about $120-$300 depending on time and day of the week. The structures are very good, you get good play for your dollar for sure. And the prize pools are incredibly large at both - they are both upscale casinos that attract a lot of people who are willing to spend the $.

Just my 2 cents. Hope you enjoy your trip!

    Cool Hooters

While not exactly for the family.. it's a nice hotel. I stayed shortly after the grand opening and was impressed, the rooms were nice (but that's not why we go to Vegas). The card room was rather small (3 tables) and the play was very bad. It was a cheap room so it was worth it.

Overall, if you stay at hooters, plan on traveling to another location to play.
Yes, i know the odds... but who cares?, this is a freeroll!
