What takes over, math or feel?

So Scott and I are playing the $32,000 guarantee on Full Tilt last night and we got put in an interesting dilemma.

With blinds at 300/600 with a 75 ante a very weak player opens on the button for 1,200. The previous hand he had done the same thing and showed down a QJ. So were sitting in the SB with a 14K stack and so I flex my muscle and tell Scott id like to 3 bet him. We make it 3,200 to go and the BB shoves all in for 8,200. The BB had repopped us before, however the only hand he had shown down was AA. The button folds and now were in an interesting dilemma. I hate our hand at this point but were getting about 2.6:1 on a call. Scott then turns to me and says those four dreaded words "Pat it's your decision". Now I know that if they don't have Aces you can't be worse than a 3:1 dog with an Ace. However I chose to fold and work with a manageable 10K stack and 16 BB instead of IMO getting it in bad, and being left with a much more difficult 7-8 BB range.

Any opinions or suggestions greatly appreciated.

    call

this is just my opinion but in this spot i just do not fold. i am a player that loves to use reads but the truth is i do not argue with math

he could easily have 9s or 8s the chances of him having aces is just not high enough to fold.

So in this particular hand, there were 13,275 chips in the pot. It would cost us 5,000 more to call, giving us pot odds of 2.67:1.

If we fold, we would still have 10,800 chips or 18 big blinds.

If we call and win we will have 24,075 chips or 40 big blinds.

And if we call and lose we will have 5,800 chips or 10 big blinds.

This should make for an interesting discussion.

I call. I'm not crazy about the situation, but I think it is a clear call. Math aside.....I think the makeup of the hand allows the BB to have a much wider 4-bet range than maybe perceived. The 3-bet could easily be perceived as a resteal, thus, allowing the BB to really make an above the rim play by 4-betting with a decent range. I'd like the BB to have a few more chips than this, not allowing us to get such a good price to call, if in fact this is a move by the BB.....but even if the 4-bet range isnt as wide as I'm giving it credit for, you can always revert back to the math, and this makes a call a very viable play.

I'd say I call most times here.

with villain's stack size and respective positions at the table, this is a simple shove or fold situation. if you are going to fold to a shove, i would prefer for you to just fold your AT to the original raise. 3 betting with the intention of folding to a 4 bet is just bad poker, since you are essentially turning your hand into 27o.

When you reraise almost over 1/3 of a villain's stack you are committing yourself to the hand and unless i have a very strong read if i am getting 2.7 to 1 i am calling a shove with any two cards that I would consider raising with.

to avoid this situation, have a plan for the hand before you raise. poker is like chess, you should have planned your next "move" in anticipation of the range of your opponent's possible reactions.

We sort of had a plan going into this hand, but it wasn't as well thought out as it needed to be...

If the button raised, we were going to re-raise.

If the button folded, we were going to raise, and call the big blind's all-in re-raise.

So when the button raised and we re-raised, it caught us off guard when the big blind didn't immediately fold. I still wanted to call his push, but at this point it didn't look quite so appealing.
