    Question 9-9 facing post-flop all-in overbet

First off, thanks very much to everyone who was railing for me this evening.

Now on to the hand where I'm questioning my play. I realize this should have been an easy fold, but for some reason his monster overbet convinced me he was scared, and definitely didn't want a call. I thought for a while, and eventually decided he most likely had something like A-K or A-Q.

Would anyone else have called here? Or was this just a donkey move?

First off...great run. You beat out the majority of a huge field. For me, I would have had to lay it down. Not sure if I would want to put my tournement life on the line against an all in with an overcard on the board.

no doubt super toughy, i dont really have good advice for this hand.

edit- according to opr he is a solid player nothing spectacular but profitable in all areas but stt's where he has a very low sample so i think this dictates a fold. Obviously if this is live play you cannot find this out but in this situation opr/sharkscope are your friend.

Overbets from solid players are the enemy. Think of this. He has QQ. But he is still scared. He only has QQ. He doesn't want you hitting a 9. hes not folding to any bet even if you are ahead but hes just putting it there saying, i got it don't try anything funny with AK or something dumb.

Its deep in a tourney. After a raise preflop and then huge bet here, most people are not going to try a huge bluff like that with AK or AQ. Believe me i do make the call sometimes, and 70 percent of the time im behind. Best bet is to wait for a better spot. If anything hes got 6 outs on you or you dominated.

Damn that is tough, I think I would probably have to fold after the flop but it is a tough one. I am not really a fan of just flatting there with 99. Simply because of situations like this. Also I dont really know this player, was he opening alot or was he pretty solid, if he was opening alot I think you call and if has a pair then thats just ul.

Also something to look at, there was no small blind in there either and he made it 3x.

Yeah, I think you should fold here...You could be ahead, but I think being a good player you can find a better spot than this to get your money in...

I understand the call. These situations are tricky. Don't be hard on yourself. As poker players, we are always making decisions based on incomplete info and in this hand, his play has deprived you of any.

When you call with 99 for a sixth of your stack, rather than re-raising (a play that will commit you) you are putting him on/hoping he has two overcards. (If he has 10s or better, the result is much the same as you would surrender your chips anyway.) Therefore, you are looking for a flop much like the one that fell. Since your hand was good enough to reraise all-in preflop (given the stack sizes), smooth-calling is effectively turning your 99 into a trap hand. Therefore, in my opinion, it is completely fair to make the hero call here (particularly given his suspicious overbet which to me, is a poor play on his part).
