Alright so I promised a part two to my earlier ramblings. I spent the majority of my first days here hanging at the WSOP. I had Bulldog, Chef and Billbell here for a couple days playing an event, we had Scott here in the ME. And the gaming expo was going on. Which was a really cool opportunity to pick up free magazines, sample products.
Posed with Humberto and Jamie Gold (see avatar and profile photo) who were both very kind.
Hell, Doyle Brunson appeared on stage suddenly one day and gave 600 free copies of his Poker Wisdom book by Cardoza publishing, signing it and 8x10 photos and posters for anyone who wanted. I thought this was a kind gesture. I picked up Gus Hansen's book for $10 (what a deal) at a Gambler's bookshop booth and just basically took it all in.
As far as poker goes, truthfully I haven't done much. I don't have a job yet (more on that later) so money is a bit tight for the time being. The move cost me a fortune and so it's time to just settle in and get back on my feet. Here is what I did play and the results (none impressive)
Thursday June 26th - $65 buy-in - Sahara 7pm tournment. 115 entrants, finished 18th, top 10 cash.
Saturday June 28th - $105 buy-in - Orleans 7pm tournament. 8 minutes in, I flopped a set of 6s and got it all in against another guy.....he had flopped set of jacks. Leaving me with 400 chips. I was pretty burning. Pushed with 6s a few hands later and same guy calls....I had run into Kings. Not my night, needless to say. Out of whole thing after 34 minutes of play.
Tuesday July 1st - $80 buy-in - Orleans 7pm. Was pretty insignificant at the table, lost 1/4 of my stack in that 89 suited hand against Mr. A2os....just never saw any cards. Finished 30 something out of 119 players, no money for me.
Saturday July 12th - $70 buy-in - Orleans (starting to hate the venue LOL). This was an event hosted by pokerchix.com, another forum I'm a member of. Saw shit for cards all night long, had to push with KQ shortstacked eventually and ran into A9 and AQ. Bye bye.
That is it. I've spent long hours on PS and FT trying to build up from tiny bankrolls. Just when I was about to give up on FT, yesterday I took my account from $40 to $135. So I definitely can't complain too much about yesterday's run.
I also notably hit the 1200 game mark, according to Sharkscope, and finally became a 0% ROI instead of in the hole. Proud of that (for now).
I had no idea this blog would end up calling for a part 3, but it will. I still have more to write about, but my attention span is fairly short right now.
Part 3 will consist of the job hunt and things I'm quickly learning about living here. Maybe later tonight. For now, it's pool time and then happy hour and a movie!!! Iliving here!!
