Friday night's poker adventure

January was a pretty slow month in the casino business. So I didn't play a whole lot of live poker, as I used most paychecks to make ends meet.

However, as things have picked up lately, I have returned to the poker scene with a vengeance.

Just a little recap of my weekend.

Friday night I worked until 10. I was tired and wanted to go home, but was talked into going over to Venetian to play a little 1/2. First hand I look down at is KK. I raise, everyone folds. Welcome to the table. I breathe a little sigh of depression, because I have probably filled my "good card" quota of the night already. Oh but wait...

Next hand I look down at is KK. Yep, again. UTG raises the pot to $6 and every person calls, except me. I choose to raise it up to $32 in the cutoff. Raiser calls and one other person. Flop comes K66. The nuts. Well 2nd nuts, in case it is my misfortune that someone has 66. But they don't....and I get checked to on the flop, I place a reasonable bet, 2 calls. Checked to again on the turn, I place another meaty bet, 2 callers. Checked to me, I make a value bet and get 2 folds. Not sure what they were chasing me down with, but although I didn't get "paid off" in the literal sense, I still feel as though I did, seeing as how it ended up being close to a $300 pot.

Few hands later, I look down at AA. Tons of limpers, I raise it to $27 on the button. UTG goes all in for $160some dollars, I call. Board is irrelevant, as he mucks his hand after the flop once I flip my aces. Must have been an AK situation or any type of drawing dead I guess.

So people start to leave the table. I am now sitting with about $600+ and I've been there for 28 minutes. Suddenly there are only 5 players, so the idea of breaking our game is discussed. If the game breaks, I'm splitting with my amazing profits and calling it a night. Instead, 2 Russian guys pull up into the 5 and 6 seat so we keep the game going. They both buy in $250. Chip runner takes their money and heads for chips. I look down at AA. Unreal!!! I raise on the button after a handful of limpers to $13. Russian dude re-raises me to $55. I think for only a second, wanting to extract absolute maximum, and instead of shoving, I make it $150. He then says all in, for a total of $250. I call and flip over my aces. Board comes as scary as can be....KQ 6 9 10. So KK beats me, QQ beats me, JJ or AJ just made a straight and 10 10 beats me. He stares really hard at his cards and finally mucks and mutters, "I hate AK."

I leave after 3 more orbits so that I don't hit and run the table. $900 cash out on my $200 buy in. Total game time....1 hr 10 mins. If I could find a job that pays me $700 an hour, I'd be pretty well off, huh?

Now granted, I was a complete card rack. I do not claim that any of this was based on skill. What more can I hope for than people repeatedly shoving into my nuts with their entire stacks?? I guess that's Friday the 13th for you! It was like my dream cash game night at my favorite poker room.
