Now that I got the earlier blog off my chest....time for what I had really planned to write.

So, an amazing thing happened at school yesterday.....it is still beyond my comprehension. We have a 2nd grader who is autistic (yes, the one who kicked me up side the head last week). He is non-verbal, which means that he CAN speak and will spew out words once in awhile, but nothing coherent or anywhere close to sentence form.

Yesterday in my class, kids were raising their hand if they wanted to come up and play the piano. I can distinguish mostly between kids that actually take lessons and have something to play and those who will think it's funny to come up and pound on a couple notes. Nate raises his hand and I think about it for a second, and I decide I'm going to let him try.

He sits down on the piano bench and says "Ok everybody, here we go!" And he begins to play the strangest pattern of notes, but he was singing! His voice was matching every pitch he played and he was making up a song about our school. You could hear and understand every word and sentence. When he was done, he got up, closed the piano and took a bow.

We (meaning his class, his aides that comes with him, and myself) were stunned silent. I've actually never seen 2nd graders so still and quiet. It was the eeriest and most beautiful thing I've ever seen. A kid who can't talk just spoke to his class through song. I am getting chills right now just writing about it. And THAT is the moment from teaching that I will carry with me forever as I move on to other things in life. It is hitting me that I have 7 weeks of school left, and I've been trying my hardest to put my personal problems aside to make sure I'm doing my job and doing it well. I have tried to embrace and soak up every "teachable" moment to take with me....but this by far tops the list. I could leave today and be very happy with my short teaching career. I was left breathless. Those are the moments we hang on to most in life.

As far as poker goes.....I don't even want to bring up the 2 hands I played last night in the badbeatspoker.net tourny....all I will say is there is a reason our password is DONKEY.

Then I tried the 32k and suffered badly in the second hand of that as well. Fortunately I didn't lose my whole stack, but I was never really in any prayer of making it to the end of that one.

Tonight I am going to focus on sit and gos. I enjoy those the most and seem to have decent success there.

Ready for the weekend!!!!!

Decided on a new theme song:
