    CO & HJ Opening Ranges

Very open ended question, but what range of hands are you opening a pot from the CO or HJ positions? Let's say all things are equal/standard: average chip stack, minimal reads, all average players yet to act with average stacks and VPIP, and non bubble situation.

For me, I'm tempted to open 3x with any middle connectors or suited T-A.

    Too general I think.

Antes? # of BBs? # of BBs of the button, small blind and big blind? Their specific tendencies ie. how often do they flat? how often do they 3 bet? Are they aggro post flop or will a c bet often take it down? Presence of any bubbles, any weak players in the blinds? aggro players in position of us? All these things factor into it. In fact the cards are almost irrelevant compared to those other factors which could swing 72o into a raise or 44 into a fold depending on those table dynamics and probably more that I'm not thinking of atm.

Those hands you mentioned raising can be raises under the gun at the right table at the right time, or they might be folds on the button in some rare situation that I'm sure exists.

Like all other things interesting, complex, and poker- it depends.

Ok, more specifically, 1st hand of any tournament with a table of unknown players.

Maybe what I am after is more of a Poker Stove question. In essence, is it +ev to open a pot from the CO/HJ vs. ATC or perhaps the top 50% of possible hands?

This has pretty much become a playing style question in my opinion. Some players will open with any two cards in the scenario you described, and others will play their cards. For me, the answer is dependent on who my remaining opponents are, the image I'm looking to create and other factors...
